This booklet represents the complaints of the NATO complex examine Institute held in Santa Flavia, Sicily from the 20 - twenty ninth June, 1977. as well as the assessment talks given by means of the academics on the Institute it proved possible for different themes to be wonderfully reviewed. This has resulted in a much broader topic assurance than may another way were attainable. The dialogue classes which those evaluate talks have been super worthy and just about all the members performed an energetic position. primarily the entire verbal contributions provided at this ASI have been therefore placed into written structure, that is why those lawsuits are so broad. ~hey do, even if, supply an up to date precis of DNA synthesis in a wide selection of matters with a few of the final difficulties essentially expressed. The enhancing of those contributions has been basically limited to adjustments fashionable and presentation. we've taken a few liberties within the re-organization of the papers into similar sections. We convey our due to those that helped set up the ASI and to the consultation conveners who tried to restrict and include those that grew to become too verbose. we're indebted to NATO, medical Affairs department for the monetary help that made this ASI attainable. eventually, we convey our gratitude to overlook Brenda Marriott. She typed all 75 papers during this publication, which was once initially predicted to be under part its current size and which simply grew and grew. She merits our distinct thanks.

The rationale behind this approach is to attach a non-replicative restriction fragment which codes for some identifiable phenotype to a set of restriction fragments, one of which contains an origin of replication. To express its phenotype, the non-replicative fragment must replicate autonomously from the chromosome as a plasmid, so only those fragments attached to an origin-containing fragment can do so. Specifically, we have purified the EcoRI-generated, nonreplicative DNA fragment from pSC122, which codes for ampicillin resistance (Apr) (5).

And his genes, as demonstrated by Louarn (6). strand preference of Mu-l specific Okazaki fragments was established for the three strains (6). The strand replicated from of the prophage is initiated on prophage. preference should be the same when the prophage is ori or from the plasmid located on the same side as ori. It should be reversed when the replication the plasmid located on the other side of the 29 MAP POSITION OF THE E. coli K12 CHROMOSOME Isolation of the Mu-l Lysogens In a population of bacteria harboring the dnaA 46 mutation and rendered lysogenic for Mu-l, we have selected mutants in the following genes: ilv operon, pho S, bgl B or C, rbs K or P.
