I thought talk shows would be a great place to go to understand how stigmatized sexualities became visible in popular culture, what kinds of visibility were available and why, what happened to the sexuality discourse when the genre changed (becoming, in the case of talk shows, more “tabloid”), and just how public discussions and spectacles of sexuality operated. Many people think that talk shows promote either degrading views of sexual minorities or portray them as exotic and bizarre. What did your research find?
