A calibration curve is required to convert TREF elution temperature to α-olefin fraction in the copolymer. Unfortunately, a universal calibration curve for TREF does not exist. TREF calibration curves depend on comonomer type and, to a lesser extent, on comonomer SLD. Calibration curves are generally linear over the whole composition range allowed by the technique, from pure polyethylene to about 10–12% molar fraction of α-olefin.
