The Tihamah dialects of al-Qauz and ~abya are grouped together. s. " in the highlands. s. abya. abya tends to fallon the ultimate or penultimate syllable whereas in al-Qauz it may recede as far as the antepenultimate. (ii) The Najdi and Eastern Arabian dialects The dialects in this group, especially the Najdi ones, appear on the whole uniform in morphological structure, if compared to the dialects of the Southern Hijaz and the Tihamah. Among the Najdi dialects, the subgroup that stands out is the Shammari dialects of the north which have been discussed by Cantineau, Johnstone, Abboud and Ingham.
