We focus on what is going on outside of us rather than within us. Step One of this book's model for managing conflicts changes this habitual response to conflictive situations. It directs our attention first to ourselves as managers (see fig. 1). Registering Feelings to Detect their Underlying Messages Conflictive situations arouse negative feelings in most people.
