But the question of what consequences a thinker’s scientific incompetence may have for the rest of his or her work remains open. Sokal and Bricmont repeatedly insist that they are not competent to judge, or even to understand, the works of the authors they discuss. However, on numerous occasions they insinuate much more general conclusions about the texts which they are scrutinizing.
